View Full Version : Of that day and hour...what day?

Mat 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Mat 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Of that day and hour...what day? The day heaven and earth shall pass away. No one but God the Father knows. It’s not the rapture. It’s not the End Times. It’s not the second coming. It’s when Heaven & Earth shall pass away. No one knows that day or hour.
Every time “a thief in the night” is used, it’s never a good thing. Judgment comes to the world like a thief in the night, 2Pe 3:10 “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night...” & 1Th 5:2 ... the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.” Why would the rapture come like a thief in the night? Doesn't fit.:freaked
Thoughts?

Ah! But it DOES fit ~
for those who are watching for the Lord -- He will come, and we will not be taken by *SHOCK*.
For the rest of the ho-de-hum, going on about their business as ordinary, asleep, REST OF THE WORLD ~ they will have something VERY SPECIAL *TAKEN* from them!!!
could be their BIL, their sister, their mother, perhaps their children......
definitely their neighbors, some of their co-workers, etc. etc.
Thus ~ the *thief* analogy.
The rapture is the ONLY thing that fits in 1 Thess. 5, btw.

Hey RJ :wave
1Th 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that I write to you.
Paul says he has no need to write to you and I...We’re the light of the world, not in darkness. We can see what other can not.
1Th 5:2 For you yourselves know accurately that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night. We’re aware of the Tribulation to come. No surprise for us. Besides we’re not here. The Rapture happens before Tribulation, and the "thief in the night" quote is associated with Tribulation (Day of the Lord)1Th 5:4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that the Day should overtake you like a thief.1Th 5:5 You are all the sons of light and the sons of the day.We are not of the night, or of darkness.
I like your analogy on the “thief in the night” thing, people suddenly missing like a thief took them, but scripture shows the connection with “Day of the Lord”
1Th 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be calm, having put on the breastplate of faith and love and the hope of salvation for a helmet.
1Th 5:9 For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, We can be calm when seeing these worldly events happen, because we know how it’s going to turn out. YEAH! :D:
Jesus is telling his disciples what to look for, before the rapture, before the Day of the Lord, and before the Millennium starts. He knows this, or He couldn’t tell us what to look for. However, after the Millennium, after Judgment, after the “fire” that cleanses the Earth, a New heaven and Earth will be made, and at that time, no man knows, or the Son, or the Angels.
I'll keep studying this matter.

Mailman guy,
I am confused as to your point. :confused
You are making a lot of good, biblical, clear statements that I understand............................... but then I completely miss your point. Can you spell it out for me because sometimes I am not so good at following other people's trains of thought.
Give me the:
1 + 1 + 1 = 3
Thanks! :D:

I’m trying to point out that believers are aware of things to come, only because Jesus (who has all power and authority) told us. When we see the birth pains beginning (and we have) we know that Tribulation is near. Since we know Tribulation is near, we know the rapture has to be closer. Right?
If the TV came out saying that, “Israel is going to sign a 7yr treaty in two weeks at the UN, FOX News will carry it live to you” wouldn’t you know that your time here is very short? Within a couple weeks?
Jesus gave us all these clues to look for, before Tribulation, and during Tribulation, and during the Millennium. The Bible teaches pre-trib rapture. Don’t let anyone fool you. Believers can see the events coming, and know, according to scripture, about the timing of the rapture, when looking, and understanding the big picture, only because Christ made it available to us.
The rapture does not come like a "thief in the night". There is not one verse in the Bible that compares the rapture with thief in the night, lingo. Thief in the night, is Jesus coming back in Judgment. Day of the Lord. If a thief came into your home...would that be a good thing? No. Even if the thief took you away? No! A thief is someone who is “bad”...not good.Judgment comes upon those who are marrying and giving away in marriage, doing the daily routine just like the days of Noah. Then suddenly, like a thief, Judgment.
Does that help any?

Maybe the issue is how we define "Day of the Lord". I've read discussions about whether this is not just one day, but a period of time, during which various judgments occur - maybe starting with the Rapture?

Think about who is populating the Earth at that time. The Church is at the Wedding Supper, The 144,000 get raptured before Judgment falls, The two Prophets get raptured in front of everyone after being dead and drug around for 3/12 days. God’s elect Israelites are protected in the mountains. Who’s left?
Rev 13:8 And all dwelling on the earth will worship it, those whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain, from the foundation of the world.
