As everyone knows by now... a passion of mine is discussing false doctrines and teachers. I believe this is a Biblical principle demonstrated by Paul. He wasnt afraid to confront it, and he always named names.
However, the problem can sometimes be that we approach it with a measure of judgmentalism.
Last night after my wife and I went to bed, we were discussing someone we saw interviewed on Hannity & Colmes. I mentioned to my wife that I thought that man was "an idiot". In her sweet loving manner she began to engage me in a conversation about how Jesus views this man, and if maybe I would consider that my view and Jesus' didnt line up.
She was absolutely correct.
I know many times lately I have been discussing a particular false teacher on here, and I have been approaching the topic with an attitude of "how can anyone in their right mind listen to anything that this idiot has to say?" That is a judgmental and completely sinful attitude. I'm not only judging the teacher to be an idiot, but also their listeners.
Take Howard Dean, for instance. As a staunch conservative, I view many of Dean's statements to be stupid and idiotic... and they are. But I come away thinking "Howard Dean is an idiot". Well how do I know that? I dont know him. He's a doctor, so apparently he is a pretty smart guy. I dont agree with his politics at all... but how can I say he is stupid, or that he is an idiot?
And I do that to the false teachers we discuss. And I've done that to many of you who disagree with me about these people.
I ask for your forgiveness, any of you who feel I have done that to you. I have been wrong in my attitude lately toward you. There has been a lot of hostility on this board, and I have taken part in some of it... and for my part, judgmentalism has played a part in it. I apologize.
Last week I told a particular administrator in a PM that I thought a lot less of her after she got on me about a particular discussion. I was being judgmental toward her. I was wrong. She knows who she is, and I ask her forgiveness too.
We should always contend for sound doctrine. I'll not let up on that, and I will always offer my opinions and insight on false doctrines. I will always name the names of those who spread false doctrine because I firmly believe that the Bible demands it. How else will people know to avoid certain teachers?
But I am praying and asking God to help me do it in love and out of a concern for people to reject error and embrace truth. I've struggled with that lately. My harsh tone at times has betrayed my sin... and many have noticed. While I need to speak firmly about these issues, I also need to learn to pepper my words with love and kindness... as Jesus would.
I ask you all to pray for me that God would help me to change my attitude, and that His love would come thru in every word I speak or write.
More of Him... and less of me.

Same boat here. I have asked for forgivness and apologized on here a few times, but not near enough times. It is something I struggle with - the line between passionately standing firm for God's Word and crossing that line to belitteling the person I'm engagued with. And I too must apologize as I can be blind seeing lines...

Me too!! I am too hard on some of these politicians sometimes.
Jesus has no favorites and we are made in such a way that we can "do our own thing" be it good or bad.
But that being said, we can also discern right from wrong and should point out error to those who might be swayed by some "smooth talker."
But this is a time for deep prayer. Prayer that we would be offered leaders who believe in Jesus and arer willing to follow His guidance in the affairs of state.

Wow - Krispy, that was just the most humble apology I have ever seen. It's only by His grace that we are able to do what you just did.
I thank God for you and your wife. The attitude you just displayed is what we should all be reaching for. Only with His help will we be able to get there.
Thank you so much for sharing your heart.
God Bless you brother,

Great post Krispy :thumb
I also have to watch myself when dealing with the false teachers. Being burned by them has left me overly sensitive and I just want to shake people that defend them. But your post is a good reminder to do everything in love and remembering the way Jesus handled people is our example.

Good post, Krispy! We all have issues that are so near to our hearts that our passion can overtake us during a discussion (abortion is such an issue for me, I really find it hard to have a calm discussion with someone who is defending "the right to choose" - I tend to go to defcon 1 right away :):). The zeal for righteousness is good and as the Lord works on us, He will temper that zeal with compassion so that we don't drive people away.

Now, Krispy...
Might the Lord lead you to leading a thread on a topic that He has placed on your heart...
comparing spiritual things with spiritual?
verse by verse,
precept upon precept..
line upon line
Truly the Word of truth can set us free, if not today, the Word is a seed that is planted by the Holy Spirit.
My professor "complimented" me one day in that she said that I was one of the few who would leave my sword at the door and enter into a place where all there had voices. I was irate... mad at myself for letting the Lord down.. ugh....
After a couple of years, I the Lord began to reveal to me that I should leave my sword at the door and enter in only carrying His sword.. the sword of the Holy Spirit.
Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord.
Prayer, fasting, ... study, .. seeking... prayer.. fasting... study...
finding the heart of our Lord on these matters.. finding His truth that sets us free, that gives us the keys to set others free...
amen and amen..
come sheep, from the thicket and learn
come in peace
come into the Light that darkness can not break..
Come to Jesus and be set free.

Krispykritter,
As one who has maybe received some of what you have spoke of (not necessarily from you), and maybe one who has done what you have just said. I want to thank you for the wonderful post, and your heart. Which we can tell is full of the Love of our Lord and Saviour.
Yes, I have to agree that we need to tell people of things or people that are not teaching/preaching the true word of God.
But, you know there is always a but:pound how we do it is just as important as doing it.
Again thank you for your heart felt post, and may God continue to bless you and your family.
Love in Christ,
Kathy:wave

Ay, Stacie... I'm w/ya. And when the time comes where you and I discuss women pastors and WOF... I will lean upon the Holy Spirit to help me address you with respect and dignity as a sister in Christ. But I will hold my ground.
Holding our ground when it comes to doctrine is something we must do. There is no room for compromise when it comes to the Word of God. I promise you all... that will not change.
Satan is deceptive, and he is the true enemy in all of this. Not our brothers and sisters, and not those who have yet to believe. Satan is the target.
The enemy is who we should fight against. We should be ever vigilant.
Like General J.E.B. Stuart said once to General "Stonewall" Jackson:
"I will tell my men to always gallop toward the enemy... but trot away!"

What a refreshing thread, and such a great testimony to others. I appreciate your honesty and humility. Just have to tell you that I also appreciate your discernment and passion (zeal) on many issues. You've have often prompted me to take a step back and look at things from a little different angle.

Krispy,
I will be here.
I will share, explain, and converse with you and all about the issues of WOF and women ministers.
I must say though, I am not engergic and excited about it.. rushing forward, burning fingers on the keyboard ready to teach you just how it is.. :cry
Instead, I will be in prayer and fasting waiting for the prompting of the Holy Spirit in how to answer in His wisdom and according to His thoughts.
Let me declare two things:
1. WOF.. in my opinion, which will stablize with study has some problems, as I have voiced, but they have some good teachings too that other denominations would benefit from.
2. Women ministers, I have contended with the Lord and the devil concerning the call on my life. . the voice of man will have no sway.. the Voice of the Holy Spirit is my guide. And, I really have no doubt that the issue could/might boil down to understanding the culture.. which in itself opens a can of worms.. for if we "culturize" issues.. then why not accept a whole compromise on christianity? A downhill slope syndrome.
But, I am here.. I wait soberly.
To Him, be glory in All things,
See the testimony of His work here in this thread..

Well.... you are right.

My dear sister Stacie... go ahead and eat them up! You'll be fasting for awhile if you're waiting on me. I wont be on here much for the next couple weeks. I'm taking my computer apart and either upgrading it, or just buying a new computer. Also, we're headed to Georgia sometime during the holidays (gotta do the inlaw thang) for a couple days. We'll get into those other topics next year... so have a chocolate eclair for me... k? (I'm a diabetic... I avoid Krispy Kreme's like the plague... carb city! Give me a steak!)

Genesis 2:18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
But for Adam [8] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs [9] and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman, [11] '
for she was taken out of man."
24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
