What would it be?

Y'shua added the eleventh "and ye shall love thy neighbor as thyself, for these fufill all the Torah and the Prophets"..

"If" I could, I would not.

There are exactly 10 commandments, and what they are, for a reason.

I wouldn't be as presumptuous to add to God's word or Law.

I know this is speaking of Revelation - but I believe the priniciple is the same for the rest of the Word that this book caps off.

Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

Yes, but isn't that what the Law (and prophets) hangs on?

Love God with all your being, and love thy neighbor as thyself.
That's what all the commandments are for and about ?

yep. I paraphrased.

One sec... here it is:

Lev 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I [am] the LORD.

Mat 19:19 Honour thy father and [thy] mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mat 22:39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mar 12:31 And the second [is] like, [namely] this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Mar 12:33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love [his] neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

Luk 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if [there be] any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Rom 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love [is] the fulfilling of the Torah.

Gal 5:14 For all the Torah is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

I was just trying to see if anyone wanted to say something like "husbands should be kind to their wives" - or maybe something humorous, like, "Never play poker with a man called "Doc".

Not me.

Commandment 11

Thou shalt not take thyself so seriously that thou turnest a thread that is intendeth to be humorous into a debate about whether the Messiah added unto us another commandment or not, or whether thou art being presumptuous.

and a hearty amen! I would have thought the quotation marks around "Eleventh Commandment" would have made things obvious enough.

Maybe my "Eleventh Commandment" should be "Lighten Up!"

the quotation marks were around "add". Better post this quick, before I'm "corrected".

Forgive me for not knowing the author's intent. It's rather ambiguous over the internet and a medium such as a message board doesn't help. If this was intended to be humour wouldn't it be better suited in Anything Goes?

That way at least I could have a better grip on where the man was coming from.

With theology forums you really have no idea what kooks, nuts, and severely misinformed people are out there.

Take you, for example :laugh ;):

Sorry for missing the point Raph :):

Another wet blanket checks into the discussion:

Even in humor we have to be careful not to give the impression that we take the Word lightly. Lots of unbelievers here, and also we are to 'fear' God, which to me means revere Him.

I'd argue that both sides have a valid point, but we need to be careful how we handle these sorts of things.

YSIC,
Patricia

Grace and peace to you all.

I like Ronald Reagon's eleventh commandment:
"Never speak ill of another Republican."

God bless,
John

Oh, did I mention that I'm a Republican.

Krispy, here in my neck of the woods it's common to ask:
"Are you a Christian or are you a Democrat?":B:

I love that!

Here in Western North Carolina... the closer you get to Asheville... the more liberal and hippy-ish it gets. Drive any direction away from Asheville, and things begin to normalize...

I saw that already.

I just disagree that that was an 11th commandment. It was simply the summation of the 10.

Isn't Asheville a big New Age place? I've heard it's the southern headquarters or something like that.

technically it has been called the "eleventh commandment" for the last hundred years or more.

I agree, it is a summation and stresses that it was love that helps bring those all together and make them possible to be followed by everyone.

How about the 22 commandments that Paul had in 1 Thes.

1Th 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
1Th 5:12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
1Th 5:13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
1Th 5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
1Th 5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
1Th 5:16 Rejoice evermore.
1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1Th 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
1Th 5:20 Despise not prophesyings.
1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Th 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
1Th 5:25 Brethren, pray for us.
1Th 5:26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
1Th 5:27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

Maybe any instruction of scripture could be considered a "commandment" - "Rebuke the devil, and he will flee from you" (commandment with promise?)

"Pray without ceasing" (commandment with exception?: don't nod your head and close your eyes while driving)

"Do not be dismayed"
"Be anxious for nothing" (commandments, not suggestions?)
