Today was my niece's b-day and my sister decided to take a group of her daughter's friends to the movies along with my 6 year old daughter. I had no idea the movie she wanted to take the kids was The Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy.

I just knew what I was in for when I realized what movie we were going to watch. It dealt with the afterlife. It dealt with Heaven and Hell. But it also implied that when people die people go to purgatory. In one of the scenes there's a woman in a crystal ball...a very evil looking woman who spoke about the Devil. When I first saw that scene, I knew that woman would speak of the devil.

I was sitting next to my 6 yr. old. And she was just looking at me said, "Oh my, I knew it was going to get to this."

But the rest of the kids in the movie theatre were sitting there laughing and having a grand ol' time with the scene. I couldn't believe the ignorance.

I told my sister, "Bad idea. Bad choice of movie."

And my sister in spite of my witnessing to her just kept saying how the kids don't really know about that stuff and it's just for entertainment. But I keep telling her, 'yes, but look at the message its sending...its sending a very clear message to kids. They were laughing at watching dead souls (ghosts in the movie)...and without knowing the truth about God and Jesus.

I was very discouraged.

By the way...I was looking at upcoming movies and saw one coming up called "Hellboy" It had a poster of a man holding the cross of Christ in his hand. I don't even care what that one's about.

But has anyone noticed the kind of movies out there.? It's all about the afterlife or about the occult!

Another side note....I picked up a Happy Meal from McDonalds for my daughter after we left my sister's house and guess the toy they are giving away with the Happy Meal? It's the crystal ball with the evil woman's head inside of it. I trashed it...and had to get my daughter prayed for because she got scared.

Just so you'll know.

And just for me to know, I better check up what movie I'm gonna take my daughter to next time.

yeah i think the movie was funny like when he got beat up by the drum and called the lady ball lady but the part with them just getting to go to heaven without belief of jesus was disturbing:cry

Sounds like what I've heard about this. Its a ninety minute commercial for the Haunted Mansion attraction at WDW.

from Rev 9:20 But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk.

21 And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceriesor their sexual immorality or their thefts.

now some ppl say the word, "sorceries" here means drug use.... and it could very well be.

But I often wonder if it might really mean witchcraft...... and occult.....

and thus, w/us being SO close to the trib starting ~ this would explain why SO MANY movies these days are focused on the occult!!

:eek

I would strongly advise against ppl taking their children to see this movie. I know it's tough being a parent in today's world & being unpopular in that (whine!) ~ "everybody ELSE gets to go see it"!! BUT.....

It's not EVERYBODY ELSE who will have to answer for your decisions..... in raising YOUR child.... and for what you do or do not allow!

Anyway, food for thought.

Kids SOAK UP everything these days!! Why our 7 y/o nephew sits just ABSOLUTELY MESMERIZED ~ even at watching even the PREVIEWS of a movie!!

My daughter got the crystal ball toy with her happy meal the other day too. She is 3. We have not seen the movie but this toy scared her to death and she threw it away on her own. She didn't like it, said it was scary and ugly and trashed it. I was right proud of her. :):

I always check out movies before going to see them. It usually turns out that I do not go to the movie. My children are older now and can decide on their own. I used to love going to movies but I rarely go to one anymore. :tsk

As for me and my house... we will serve the Lord.

This would include entertainment. I believe we are to avoid even the appearance of evil.

Phil. 4:8 says... "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

This would be a good verse for parents to consider when taking their kids to the movies, renting a video, buying a CD... or simply turning on the TV.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that Haunted Mansion is occultic. Did anyone actually think it wouldn't be?

We were at Disneyland over the holidays last December. The Hunted Mansion had a "Tim Burton's 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' " theme. The lines for it were long right before closing at midnight. Had we gotten in, the experience would have not been the same.

The flick was simply a commercial for the ride at the Disney theme parks. Very nice looking film. Nice to see they kept the New Orleans theme of the actual ride.

Country Bears, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion . . . . .looks like they'll do the Big Mountain log ride and the far west side of Disneyland will be covered.
