View Full Version : The Human Will

Hey,

Talk to me slowly about what the Bible says about our human will.

For example: Paul says that he buffetted his body...

Jesus said that if He does not draw us to Himself, we can not come...

humility shows us that we can not breath without the Lord willing that we breath the next breath...

I can not lift my arm without the Lord willing that I lift it...

According to scripture.. how much of our walk with the Lord is our responsiblibity.

Example...
From 1995-1998 I led a fasted life.. one meal a day.. with occasional "feast" days.. but I could never fast three days in a row.. just could not do it...
In 1998.. in the middle of a feast day.. the Holy Spirit arrested me in the middle of a do-nut and started me on an 18 day absolute fast (which changed my life forever)...

Now, I am back on the same path.. one meal a day and no way to do a three day... it is not the hunger.. it is the lack of will...

Tell me what you think?

God not want me to fast? Or, I am not pressing in and rebuking enough? Do I take my will and demand it of myself.. (to make myself have a will to fast?) or wait until the Holy Spirit arrests me again?

Thanks,

His servant

I say live in complete obedience to God, and he will reveal what he wants from you, whether its to fast or not to fast at what specific time. I say stay in the scriptures and keep on being sanctified by the Spirit.
The closer you are walking with God, the better his will, will be revealed to you.

Our goal in our Christian walk, to to Let Our Will, be to Do the Father's Will, with our Lord Jesus as the Supreme example of this, and other examples being the Prophets and the Apostles.

We have to "die to self" to ever get to the point of being useful to God. Our natural will is "genetically" rebellious to the things of God. We must die to self, so that it is Jesus who lives in us and not we ourselves.

However, our will can choose to accept Jesus or deny Him. That is the greatest decision we will ever make and one that will seal our eternal destiny.

Even after salvation, dying to self may take a while. We are still stubborn as Christians even as we worship the Lord. Look at all of the different denominations. They are largely in existence because christians could not see eye to eye on process and split into factions.

Man always corrupts what he tries to do in the natural....if he follows his will rather than God's. Its sometimes hard to let go and totally trust in Jesus. But thats the key. Total and unabated surrender. I would begin the process with prayer and asking God to break you of your natural will. But a warning here......you will likey suffer in the process.

But count it all joy, knowing that God is doing a good work in you!!

I think that this verse about sums up.....the amount of free-will that man is allowed to have.

Joshua 24:15
But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD ."

James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
