Not sure where to put this..I thought Christian Chat would be appropreate..

Anyhow..

last night I was thinking about the half hour of silence in heaven when Jesus opens the seventh seal..Rev. 8:1..anyhow I wondered how long that would be on earth..

Being one who likes to figure things like this out I got out a pad/pencil and started figuring..not being good at this favorite pass time of mine..I can't believe what I came up with..so..I thought I'd ask you guys, who I'm sure are better mathimaticians than I am.. if you might get something different..

I have come up w/3 different earthy times..30 . someodd seconds; one . some odd second and 1/2 . some odd seconds..

I go w/the 1/2 . some odd seconds..

This is how..

Working on the assumption that Paul meant it literally when he said 'to God, a day is like a thousand years' I decided to divide 24 into 1,000..

(since there are 24 hours in our day)..

I came up with 41 and 2/3

then I multiplied that by 24..dropping the 2/3..(like I said..math isn't my best subject..the 2/3 just complicated things)..

coming up w/984..close enough to 1,000 to suit me..I did this to find out if my divsion had been done right..so in our time..Gods day is 41. some odd years..

now to get how many hours there are in that 41 year day.. one has to divide 24 into 41..getting..1 17/24 hours..(I still don't get this one..but it's what I came up with..)..

There are 60 minutes in an hour so you must divide 60 into 60..getting one minute..and of course sinse there are 60 seconds in a minute you have to divide 60 into 60 again getting one second..you divide that in half getting the heavenly 1/2 hour..so according to my calculations one gets 1/2 . some odd seconds..(now is where you worry about the original 2/3 that I decided not to worry about earlier)..

So..I'm thinking to myself..self are you sure the folks on earth only get an earthly 1/2 . some odd seconds of silence before the seventh seal is implemented?..

Whoa!!!..:freaked

So..if you're inclined..please tell me what you think and where I went wrong..if indeed I am wrong..Thank You Much..:D: :D:

edited to fix big time miscalculations..sorry

I think it's meant the other way around.

One day--in heaven-- is 1,000 years to us.. it's a looong time.

See:

Psa 90:4 For a thousand years in thy sight [are but] as yesterday when it is past, and [as] a watch in the night.

2Pe 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Revelation 8:1 When the Lamb broke the seventh seal, there was silence throughout heaven for about half an hour.

Huh? :confused

What are you actually trying to do?

Well.. I got this:

30/1440 = X/525600000
1440X = 15768000000
x = 10950000 minutes
or 1082500 hours
or 7604.17 days
or 20.82 years

So.. using your analogy.. and ants logic.. 30 minutes in heaven would equal roughly 21 years here on earth. *

*Not that I think it has any significance, I just like math and I was bored. :D:

Now this makes much more logical sense..Thank You glory!!!!..:D:

I just couldnt figure out what you were trying to do, and thus my question...

It only works though if the tribulation is 7,000 earthly years long. I certainly and sincerely hope that's not the case. :twitch

His Sparrow, it says clearly the trib would be 7 years. not 7,000.

But, it says "in heaven-- the space of about a half hour"-- which is the cause of speculation.

Personally, I don't think we can know (while on this earth) How long that actually is. . . because it will be pure speculation, which is what katt was doing.

Speculatin'. :D:

I'm pretty good at math, but you complicated this one and really lost me!

I just divided 1000 yrs by the 24 hours to get 41.666667 years equal one hour. Then divided the 41.6666667 in half (space of half an hour) to get 20.833333333....

In other words:
1000/24= 41.66666667
41.666666667/2= 20.8333333....

I guess I took the word problem approach while you took the algebraic "solve for x" approach. ;): :wave

oh BTW, I don't think it can mean anything other than half an hour, or else you would have to convert other verses in Revelation using the same mathematical principals. Such as the locusts causing torment for five months and the four angels bound in the Euphrates being prepared for an hour and a day, and a month and a year.

That was my point also. You can't have a twenty year moment of silence within a 7 year tribulation.
