In the same vein as the 'Life of Brian' thread, what do people think of the theological issues behind both 'Dogma' (Kevin Smith) and 'The Life of Brain' (Monty Python), which are both (excellant) comedies that deal with religious issues? No quoting or laughing here; serious discussion.

Life of Brian, I think, deals more with the problems behind organized religion as a general force, about how it corrupts, decieves, and how easily it can lead the masses.

Dogma, on the other hand, seems to be more about the general problems of religion and the dangers of taking everything at face value.

Dogma is not a comedy. It is a sad attempt at comedy that fails miserably. It is NOT a religious movie in any sense of the word. J is the worst actor ever and is one of the most offensive characters in the movie business and was the worst character in this film. I literally felt dirty after watching that movie. The best part was the end...I mean when the movie actually ended and was over. It made flimsey and failing attempts to add in "real" issues throughout the garbage-laden filth. Now that I have seen Matrix Reloaded, it reminds me of that movie--vain attempts to do philosophy (theology in the case of Dogma) that were terribly forced and ultimately were worthless and barely philosophical at all. Trash that wasn't funny I say.

I feel as if Life of Brian was making more fun and mockery of the RCC than true Christianity in General.

Dogma, I stayed away from. I had enough sense to see something horrid from a few miles away.

Life of Brian is great with tv guardian and only with that :P:

Is the TV Guardian actually good? I have something called Protect TV and it definitely bleeps out cuss words but also 2 seconds of audio before and after the bad word. This makes for quite the silent film when it comes to certain movies. Is the guardian better than this?

Are you talking about Dogma with Ben Aflek and his blonde friend from Good Will Hunting (I can't remember his name...brain fart)?

Tv Guardian does the same, except we keep the captioning on, and it inserts a word that isn't bad.

The really annoying setting is "religious" - because a pastor can't even say "damnation" or "hell"

It bleeps and bleeps and bleeps even with things that aren't really deemed bad!
