I also put this in Bible Study, but there isn't much action as far as viewing over there, I thought I might get more responses faster to put it here as well. Thanks.

Matthew 27 Dead have risen already?? Post #1 of 1

Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

My roommate and I are reading thru the Bible, and a couple of nights ago we both stopped and looked at each other when we got to this. I thought first of all that the soul is present with the Lord after death, but that at the rapture the dead will be united with their resurrected (perfect) bodies.

Secondly, I thought we were not to have anything to do with the dead, and I think the dead walking among us and appearing to many would qualify would it not?

I'm just really confused about this, I don't remember thinking much about it before, but I really need some clarification.

HELP!!!! Much appreciated....

Ive always understood 'many' to mean just that... The fact that they went into the 'holy city' and 'appeared to many' seems to indicate that the numbers, while significant, werent overwhelming.

In other words... 'Many' isnt synonymous with 'All'

These where the dead that where in Paradise, before Jesus' death no one was allowed to go to Heaven. Jesus had not purchased us yet.

At his death , the purchase was made by his blood, and those who's bodies where in the graves, but their souls in paradise rose, from there and went on to Heaven with Jesus. I believe that they are the first fruits that Jesus brings to the Father.

I also believe, because of this verse that at the rapture, we will see graves being opened and all those who have believed in Jesus will be coming out. Then they will be raptured to Heaven, just like they where, and we who are still alive will go after them.
