I've been reading Jeremiah lately, where God is sending Jeremiah to speak out to Israel concerning their wickedness, and soon destruction. Some of these verses made me think of America, and how we sound just like Israel.

Jer 5:6 Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: everyone one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their BACKSLIDINGS are increased. (Many Christians aren't living for the Lord)

Jer 5:7 How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.

Jer 5:8 They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.

Jer 5:9 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the Lord: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? (America too has fallen into immorality).

Jer 5:12 They have belied the Lord, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us: neither shall we see sword nor famine: (despite 9-11 America has gone back to sleep)

------
Jer 5:31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means: and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof? (One word: TBN)

------
Jer 18:7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;

18:8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.

18:9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;

18:10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.

I started reading Jeremiah a few days ago also. I finished another book devotionally, and as always asked the Lord what book was next. I had in mind maybe another new testament book, I love reading about Jesus, but I was directed to Jeremiah. I'm in about the same place as you. I got the same impression as you. Wonder if we are being told something. Alot of similarities between then and now.

The similarities are hard to deny, and I do believe God is telling us something. I always thought God would spare our Nation because of our relationship with Israel, and the large number of Christians in America. Now I'm not so sure. If God doesn't judge us he'd better apologize to Israel, and Sodom and Gomorrah.

Yes there are many similarities. In Dueteromony 28, God speaking through Moses, makes it clear that He blesses and disciplines nations in accordance with their obedience to Him.

The Bible teaches that when a nation reaches a "point of no return", the point where "the wound becomes incurable",prayer is no longer of any avail. That is why our Lord God told Jeremiah not to pray for the delieverance of Judah! :tape (Read Jer 7:16; 15:1). He told Ezekiel the same thing (Eze 14:12-21; 15:7) http://www.maverickreport.com/images/smilies/goldfish.gif <><

Among many other things about the Book of Jeremiah, the unwillingess of the Israelites to heed God's word coming through Jeremiah even after they had been conquered has always amazed me. Even though Jeremiah had by then met the test of a prophet, they still sought God's word from him, heard it, and then blatantly rejected it.

Definitely reminds me of those written about in Revelation who experience the wrath of the Tribulation and still reject the Lord.

Just goes to show ya...how many today hear His Word, and yet they reject it - we don't have to wait for the Trib to see it :cry <><

Let us pray that God will evacuate His church first, because if He subjects America to the same fate that befell Sodom and Gomorrah, every member of the Body of Christ living in this nation will be as dead as the ungodly. Since God told Abraham that He would spare Sodom if it had just 10 righteous people, let us pray that He will honor that precedent and do the same for us.

BTW, I'm in the process of reading the Book of Jeremiah in my One-Year Bible as I type this (along with 2 Timothy). I'm well into the book now! I've read the first 47 chapters.

Yours truly,
Kathy G.

Kathy, I agree that we will probably be taken out before the SEVERE judgment comes on America. But more and more I believe that these terrorist attacks/threats are a form of judgment on America. God can use the ungodly to fulfill His will too. He has also shown us mercy as well, seeing that many more could have died on 9-11 and didn't, and many other attempts have been stopped. Nevertheless I believe more will come in the future unless people wake up and start returning to the basic Christian values this country was built on. Bible prophecy says that the world will decline during the end times, and we are already seeing it come to pass.
