View Full Version : Back from Catholic Services...and BOY is my mind tired!

I have just returned home from Sunday worship at my Catholic Parish. Words cannot describe how I feel right now. before you go saying awwww, that's great, he's at a loss for words because of his worship...let me tell you, it is not that. I saw something transpire today that I would never have dreamed to have seen in a Church...Catholic, Protestant, Baptist...denomination is not the issue. Today, the priest's homily (his sermon, I guess you would call it after the Gospel reading for anyone not familiar with the Catholic service) was skipped today for a "presentation" by some of the Catholic children and a few adults. The first of two skits was probably 5 or 6 kids dressed up in little wizard costumes (pointy hat and all) with the letter "H" in red on their chests. When they were introduced the mention of Harry Potter and his plan to help others...on the altar, they proclaimed that helping the church and others is a "magical experience." The second skit involved 2 adults dressed as pirates (swords, skull and crossbones, eyepatch...the whole 9 yards) shouting out ARRGGHH, MATEY...it's the Pirates Code to help the church!

Now, here is my take on this...maybe I am over-reacting...

While I can see that this was probably an attempt to reach the younger people in the congregation, I can also see that there may have been more appropriate characters to help portray the image of brother helping brother and the church. While I have no real objection to Harry Potter in fiction, my belief is that he has no place in the church. As much as I hate the Teletubbies or Barney (That big, purple irritating dinosaur :twitch ) I would have chosen them over a wizard's portrayal of Christianity any day. As for the second skit...well, spank me and call me Shirley. :frusty Again, as I KNOW this was an attempt to get through to the younger members...but pirates and swords and running around with skulls and crossbones yelling ARRRRRGGHHH...am I over-reacting? Do any of you, my brothers and sisters, feel that this belongs in a church? Seriously, it took every ounce of decency in me for me not to leave. Now, correct me if I am wrong. but as it is documented in history I don't THINK that pirates in RL were warm, fuzzy loveable church goers...

Sorry for the rant...

Frank

Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts. Rev 9:21

And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived. And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth. Rev 18:23-24

But these two [things] shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, [and] for the great abundance of thine enchantments
For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I [am], and none else beside me.
Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, [which] thou shalt not know.
Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.
Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from [these things] that shall come upon thee
Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: [there shall] not [be] a coal to warm at, [nor] fire to sit before it.
Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, [even] thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
-Isaiah 47:9-15

And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no [more] soothsayers.
-Micah 5:12

The proof is in the pudding, as they say...

I'm in agreement.

NO Sorcery should be used as any means to get ANYONE into ANY congregation.

we're to remove all sorceries from us.

Coming from Catholic backgrounds and all, the RCC has way too much paganism in it.

Let's put it this way, when working with Pagans, they lump everyone into the RCC mold and say "See, you're doing the same as us".

(Not to upset you or anything).

Where I have been in the Latin speaking countries and where I have done missionary work, the RCC has done more damage than help, because it has gotten many into Voodoo, Santaria and other witchcrafts.

HP is just complicating the issue.

Deuteronomy 18:9 ...thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD:

I totally agree with the observations on Potter. His stuff is just in
a "fiction" format, but much of it is not fiction. I wonder how many others who saw this also had problems with it.

Judging by the applause I don't think too many of them were all that flustered. I refused to applaud, I was kind of in shock, I guess. The kids, they probably didn't know any better, they were probably 5-7 years old at the most...but I have to wonder where the idea came from??? Somebody organizes and orchestrates things like this...what were they thinking? :doh

I am still angry over the catholic heiarchy's attempt to shuffle pedofile priests between parishes to cove up what is a basic trust and morality issue.

If they are not willing to defrock such perverts and protect little children....they are indeed a dangerous and rancous religion.

I read some posts a few weeks back where church goers (protestants I assumed) were disgruntled because of the "skits" going on in the main service.

Its called "drawing a crowd."

But man is not the one who should be trying to do the drawing......IMO.

I would like to say I'm surprised, but I'm not.

I am, however, extremely greatful and thankful to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for calling me out of that church.

It was the best obedient choice I've ever made.

I just can't believe it!:freaked This is totally uncalled for in a church. This is nothing but a demonic attempt to deceive the parrish members into thinking this is a good thing.

Frank...the Holy Spirit is telling you this is way wrong. He has given you discernment about this. Frank, you need to run as fast as you can away from this church!

Maybe you can find a good non-denominational church to attend. Go to a church that teaches Jesus as the only way by confessing our sins to him and asking him to come into our hearts to be our ONLY lord and saviour. Make sure the church teaches GOD'S Word...without adding or taking away from it.

Run Frank...God has opened your eyes concerning this church.

*note...I would be saying the EXACT same thing if this was a protestant church doing this.:nod

I'm not Catholic, but I strongly suspect that what you went on to describe is a liturgical abuse that needs to be reported. The homily is suppossed to be centered around the Gospel reading for that particular day correct?

I would strongly suggest that you report this incident to your bishop:

Bishop Pepe (http://communitylink.koz.com/servlet/lvrj_ProcServ/DBPAGE=page&MODE=display&GID=01252001050999632524061436&PG=01252001050999632524199188&START_COUNT=1)

No, you are not overreacting. Harry Potter and the pirates need to be shown the door.

Blessings,

At my church the kids church, done a skit with Pirates, and a missionary, it showed the salvation message clear as day, then at the end the pirates fell on their knees and repented, it was so cool :thumb

Also wasn't the bloke who wrote Amazing Grace, a ex-pirate?

The catholic church stronly supports this junk of harry Potter. it is the norm, not the exception.

We had pics of the pagan ceremonies in the catholic churches, barefoot Nuns with incense bowls dancing around alters, and local parishes holidng wiccan ceremonies and "fun stuff" to liven up their services.

they feel that those dancing nuns are normal and God would like it.

If I find the threads I will post them (they are in Apologetics).

Find another one. I was a lapsed Catholic. Well you know why, my parish was so commercial! I felt like I was being taught to be a sales person rather than a Christian. The homilies were more often about fundraisers than scripture. Well when I got married, my parish was under renovation and they sent me to get married in another Parish. What a difference! I go and worship every Sunday now. This one incorprates the second comming of Jesus and to prepare and be ready almost every Sunday. I guess this is what they mean about apostacy? It's hard to find a good Church of any denomination these days. Speaking from experience, all Catholic Parishes are not the same, as I would assume all Lutheran, Baptist, Episcopal (I really do not think that all Episcopal parishes agree with that gay bishop thing) etc parishes are not the same!! Good luck to you.

With my past experience, I cannot say that it is not true with some parishes. But not all. I dabbled in witchcraft (I come from a line of witches). I went to confession in this new Catholic parish, and of course I confessed that since it is a sin. Well I got a lecture! What I got out of the lecture: any worship that does not worship God is a big NO NO. And it looked like he really new his scripture too. He mentioned that God hates sorcery, soothsayers. Oh it was too long to remember it all. But I saw a lot of what he said in this site. Is this a sign of the end, that churches start to do things that are not right? Yikes
