If I was to say (or think) "That Jesus! Here is a fellow who has lost his mind (or taken leave of his senses, etc.,)" and meant it, would that be a sin? Why?

Just an idle guess,

but if you said it and meant it (believed it in your heart) then you wouldn't be thinking that Jesus is the Son of God, God Himself. The sin would maybe not so much be in what you said (that is, he's nuts) but in the rejection of His deity to begin with.

Ooh. That's very good. Rejection of his deity, that is, unbelief. Exactly what I was thinking. Anybody else care to weigh in?

BTW, I am going somewhere with this. Y'all have to wait until I get enough answers before I reveal where.

Yes

Your questioning God as well doubting his omnipotence and omnisience by claiming he doesnt know what he is talking about.

maybe this will help you get to your point quicker:

if you really meant this, you might need to be saved. rejection=damnation.

Blasphemy is the only unpardonable sin... and - my guess would be that that is blasphemy

Err...
Not exactly.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is cited as unpardonable.
However, Blasphemy of either the Son or Father is cited as forgiveable.

If you blaspheme the Son and say he hasn't the Holy Spirit and is doing his miracles by way of HaSatan- you are blaspheming the HS.

BTW, Jesus Himself said that the Comforter, the Holy Spirit would speak of Him! So if you're blaspheming Jesus, you are in essence, blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Not to mention, John also emntions that anyone who doesn't claim the deity of Christ has the spirit of anit-christ! No way around it, unfortunately.

So when are we going to hear where you were going with this?

Well, I personally don't believe it's an unpardonable sin, because I believe many many people have "entertained" the idea of Jesus being crazy during their search for truth. I remember when reading "The Case for Christ," that specific question is answered, and quite well. It's one of those things that sits in some people's minds, people who don't know any better, etc.

Once you have the Holy Spirit dwelling within you, however, I don't see how you could come to that conclusion, because the HS testifies to whom Christ is.

Am I making any sense? :P:

I would have to say that, based on scriptural evidence, it is not the unpardonable sin. Somebody very well known and highly esteemed by the church did that once.

Mark 3:20. (New American Bible) He returned to the house with them and again the crowd assembled, making it impossible for them to get any food whatever.

21. When his family heard of this they came to take charge of him, saying, "He is out of his mind"

His family? Consisting of who?

Mark 3:31. His mother and brothers...

And that is where I was going! Mary sinless? I don't think so.

No doubt I'll be kicked into Apologetics so everybody can be angry.

I agree w/ your premise that mary was not sinless like some organization might have us buy into, but that passage doesn't mention people calling him crazy. :confused if so, what verse?

I gave it to you! Mark 3:21, from the New American Bible "Official Catholic Bible."

scott, i'm an idiot..when i flipped in my bible to that chapter i was reading the passage starting w/ verse 31..:doh

Mark 3:21 says, "And when his friends ...."
this is out of the kjv and doesn't mention "family."

Mark 3:21 (KJV) "His friends."
" " (NIV) "His family."
" " (NAB)"His family."
Literal Greek "the with" ie., "relations"

Interesting...berry berry interesting...you do know, though (just playing devil's advocate here), that our catholic friends will say that due to the verse's vagueness, that we're stretching to include Mary in this "friends," "family," or "relations." (depending on the version?

Is this passage mentioned only in the book or mark?

Until you get to verse 31 where his relations are specifically spelled out, "His mother.."

Is this passage mentioned only in the book or mark? Yup.
