I would LOVE to come but I think South Barrington is quite a haul from where I am. I am southeast of Springfield about 20 miles. :(:

Max Lucado is an awesome author! I live in Illinois but I am in Carbondale. That is about as far away from Barrington as you can get and still be in the State. Wish I was closer and could come listen to him.

I really enjoy reading the books by Max - they are so easy to read and understand. He certainly has a gift in the area of writing.
I have several; "He Choose the Nails"; "Six Hours one Friday" and "No Wonder they call Him Savior".
Great reading and insight.

Oh yes I forgot I have the book "Grace for the Moment" which is a daily devotional and contains thoughts from several of his books.
And I agree some of his thoughts are so beautiful. Many times I have had to stop reading because I couldn't see the words for the tears in my eyes.

Lucado?
Awesome.
I have yet to come across a book he has written that I haven't had a hard time putting down. I have about 13 of his books, 5 which I have read...one that I'm in the middle of...the rest where a confident investment. :):
I've used alot of his stories when I witness to people.
Our "Half Price Books" store usually has them in droves and are at cut rate prices....
On another note...
I have also just finished a book called The Samson Syndrome written by Mark Atteberry....His style is alot like Max...I highly suggest it also.

We live in san antonio texas and go to the church that max is a pastor at (Oakhills). He is just as an amazing speaker as he is a writer. We fell very, very blessed to be able to listen to him every sunday. My daughter and I were in line to vote last year and he was in front of me. He was very personable and was really great with my daughter (who is 6)...he made her laugh a bunch by being silly and she loved him.

I also like Max Lacado, his works are wonderful.
This is one of his favorite quotes that I copied and have on my computer.
Self Control- I am a spiritual being, after this body is dead my spirit will soar. I refuse to let what will rot rule the eternal. I will be drunk only by joy. I will be impassioned only by faith. I will be influenced only by God. I will be taught only by Christ. ~Max Lacado

Every Easter, I have made it a tradition to read "No Wonder They
Call Him The Savior"...
This is the most inspiring, heart-felt work you can ever imagine
reading...
But, read it with a box of kleenex near by....

Well, thanks for mentioning this! I live about a half hour from Barrington and my Aunt goes to Willowcreek. I didn't know they had Saturday night services though. That's cool, I think I'll go. Does he speak a lot on end times and prophecy?

I have read a couple of Max Lucado's books and it is my opinion that if you have read one, you have read them all. Not that they were bad or anything, just more or less the same. So save yourself some money and don't buy any more than one.

I know he is Church Of Christ, but teaches baptism is symbol only :thumb . But most CoC also teach we can lose our salvation.
Just curious, does Max believe in eternal security?

We are members of Oakhills Church of Christ (where max preaches) and it took us a long time before we would attend it because it was Church of Christ. Well it's bascially in name only. Each Church of Christ is governed by their own elders. When Oakhills moved locations a couple of years ago, they almost change the name from Church of Christ because of what people perceived what Church of Christ to be. Oakhills does NOT believe that you can lose your salvation. If you want more information on what Oakhills believes in you can go to their website at www.oakhillschurchofchrist.org so you can be better informed on what Max believes in

Thanks millerpsych!
We got tangled up in a Christian Church (CoC) that was very subtle in their doctrine. When they hammered us with the faith +baptism and 'staying obediant to stay saved', they told us we were from satan and had a false gospel.
It was bad! Most people there, once they get this 'hammer' ..unfortunately they sway and change to these doctrines. :cry

Max just came for a visit, he isnt there on a regular basis. If you want more information on Willow Creek and its service times etc their website is www.willowcreek.org
He doesnt speak a lot about end times and prophecy, but he did mention 3 separate times regarding Christ's return. In one instance, he was making a point about the inevitability of death, he mentioned unless Christ comes first. He acknowledged right there the scripture regarding that we will not all sleep, those that are alive and remain will be caught up with the resurrected.
To me, that was an undeniable affirmation of the rapture from a man I respect greatly as a teacher and author. Yes, many of his books stress similar things, but each one I have read has had its own value. To each his own though...
He is an excellent teacher and motivator. He teaches faith in Christ for salvation and life with Christ now. Jesus came to give us life and give it to us more abundantly. He gave us the Bible to guide us, the Holy Spirit to shepherd us in our walk, and He will come back for His children who are NOT appointed to wrath.
He is coming soon, He is coming to take us out of here before the tribulation, and in the meantime He has blessed us with many resources like Max to help us on our journey.
Im reading "No Wonder They Call Him the Savior" by Max Lucado, and like his other books, it is beneficial to me. Any input, no matter how repetitive it may be to some people, that stresses the Lordship and awesome sacrifice that was made by our Lord Jesus Christ is of value.
I love my life now, with all of its challenges all of my failures, all of it, everything is for His glory. For His worship. I love you Jesus, thank You. Cant be said enough.
And we will be saying it for eternity when Christ comes.

I bought his book, "When Christ Comes" thinking that he would talk about what he thinks about the end times.
Unfortunately, the book did not talk directly about this. He did not say if he thinks Christ's return is soon based upon prophecy or current events. It was a wonderful book talking about our feelings about death and dying issues and looking forward to heaven, whether it comes through death or the by Christ's second coming.
We are trying to become more involved in the church here and will hopefully get to know him more personally at some point.

I dig Max very much. And the fact that he tourd with Third Day doesn't hurt my opinion of him not one little bit. I just wish I could have seen it.

Michael W. Smith came to the Detroit area last year with Third Day and Max - it was awsome. There certainly is something about 50,000+ believers gathered in one place worshipping and praising God all at the same time.
I can only imagine what heaven will be like :dancing

Once you've read one or maybe two, you've read them all. He's no C.S. Lewis that's for sure. Of course, that is my opinion and you are entitiled to your own.

You guys are gonna be so jealous of me! I went to a yard sale last yr and bought a couple bags of new books (not knowing who he was really) but thought they looked like they might be good. I think I paid about a 1.00 for all. I think maybe i better open one up and read it.:thumb

I was kinda worried that he was fluff and stuff, like Joel Osteen or the whole PDL line. It's like with the WoFers, I feel as though the HS gets worked up in me when I hear or read him.
